The Bluebonnet Opry was formed in 1998 by Allison Crowson. The monthly show was held every third Thursday at the Brenham Fireman’s Training Center. Ms. Crowson eventually stepped down from running the opry when she became an assistant principal at Brenham High School.
A group of interested individuals got together and decided that the show should go on. At that time the opry was relocated to Silver Wings Ballroom and became the Friends of Bluebonnet Opry. At that time the organization became a non-profit group dedicated to benefitting the local Brenham Hospice branch.
Bill Harris became the first chairman, taking the reins until his death. Raymond & Erma Walker then lead the group until her failing health had them retire in December 2007. At this time Henry & Eunice Drews became co-chairs and lead the non-profit group along with 17 other board members that tirelessly work every month to put on a show that draws spectators from across Texas and occasionally visitors from other states.
Harris Kubos Sr is the leader of the Bluebonnet Opry House Band that performs with all the talent each month. Harris has successfully booked performers in the past such as Tony Booth, Darrell McCall, Jake Hooker, Stephen Pride, David Church, and many other talented performers both local and from surrounding areas.
Through the combined efforts of the Friends of the Bluebonnet Opry, its many sponsors & supporters, we have been able to make sizeable donations to our local Hospice branch. We are able to donate $5000 to $6000 a year to Hospice.
We thank all of you who come to see our monthly show and hope that if you have never been before that you choose to do so! The Opry is every third Thursday of the month at Silver Wings Ballroom. The doors open at 5:30 PM with the show starting at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $7.00 a person sold at the door.
